The Operator career at VTA begins as an Operator Trainee. During the paid 9-week training period, the salary will be $21.37/hour. All candidates must successfully complete training to promote to the Operator classification. After successful completion of the training program, the salary will increase to $23.32/hour.
At the time of appointment as an Operator Trainee, candidates MUST possess a Class B permit with Passenger (P) and Air Brakes endorsements AND receive a DOT physical clearance that is valid for a minimum of six months.
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications for the Operator position will be invited to take an in-person written examination. Written examinations include multiple-choice, video, and performance tests. Applicants who pass the examination process are then invited to participate in the interview process. Interviews for the Operator position are scheduled on a rolling basis, depending on operational needs.

Minimum Qualifications
Employment Standards
Training and experience equivalent to a High School Diploma and possession of a valid California Class C driver's license at the time of appointment, and the ability to obtain and maintain a valid California Class B license.
Driving record may not have more than three (3) moving violations within the last three (3) years.
Must be eighteen (18) years of age at the time of application.
Must have a good attendance record at school and/or previous job.
Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and odd and unusual hours.
