The Truckee Fire Protection District is accepting applications for the position of Lateral Firefighter/Paramedic.
About the District
The Truckee Fire Protection District is an "All Risk" district, responding to the needs of the community, regardless of the nature of the incident. Firefighters perform Structural Firefighting, Vehicle Extrication, Confined Space Rescue, Airport Rescue Firefighting, Hazardous Materials response, Urban Search and Rescue, High Angle Rescue, Swift Water and Ice Rescue, Dive Rescue Operations and Wildland Firefighting. The District is also a transporting ALS provider. Its jurisdictional boundary is approximately 120 square miles. The District is a bi-county special district established in 1894 serving the Town of Truckee and unincorporated areas of Nevada and Placer Counties managed by a Fire Chief and a 5-member Board of Directors.
The Truckee Fire Protection District has 4-staffed stations. Employing 38 full-time firefighters.
The Position
Under supervision of the Fire Captain the Lateral Firefighter/Paramedic shall provide fire, rescue, and pre-hospital emergency medical service (EMS) functions, perform fire suppression, fire prevention education, emergency medical and rescue services per certification, hazardous materials events, and required duties as they relate to the fire service within the community, locally, and statewide. Additionally, participate in the daily activities of their assigned station to ensure efficient operation.
This position works a 48/96 schedule averaging 56-hours per week inclusive of weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
Applicants must be physically fit to meet the demands of fire service operations and able to work in an environment including during periods of very inclement weather conditions with the possibility of heavy smoke conditions and dust, steep and rough terrain, under at times physically and mentally stressful conditions. Requires sufficient hand eye coordination to perform very technical skilled movements in less than favorable conditions such as roof ventilation with power tools, ladder applications, self-contained breathing apparatus applications, use of various hydraulic tools, and sophisticated EMS procedures, and other fire service-related operations.

Firefighter/Paramedic Non-Operator Annual Base $84,780
FLSA Annual $2,270
Firefighter/Paramedic
Annual Base Range $93,240 - $105,492 FLSA Annual Range $2,497 - $2,826
Current Operators will be paid at non-operator rate until completion of EVOC and District Task book.

EMS Certifications
At the time of application, the applicant must possess:
• Valid current California State Paramedic License or National Registered Paramedic (California licensed within 60-days of employment).
• Possess Sierra-Sacramento Valley EMS accreditation or must be obtained within 60-days of employment.
• Valid health care provider CPR certification.
• Current PALS or PEPP certification.
Fire Service Training and Certifications
At the time of application, the applicant must possess:
• Currently employed as a Firefighter/Paramedic with a Public Agency.
• California State Fire Marshal Firefighter 1 or
IFSAC/ProBoard or equivalent. With the ability to obtain California State Fire Marshal Firefighter 1 within probationary period.
• ICS-100, ICS-200, NIMS 700 certifications.
• HazMat FRO
Driver's License
• Valid driver license with a clean driving record.
Valid CPAT

• The part-time firefighter/paramedic will be enrolled in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) retirement plan if they are members of CalPERS.

• Employee pays the employee portion of their
retirement contribution, and if a Classic Member pay a percentage of the employer's portion per District MOU.
• If they are not Members of CalPERS, they will be enrolled in the PARS retirement plan until they have worked 1000 hours within the fiscal year then they will be enrolled in CalPERS.
• There are no insurance benefits such as medical, dental, or vision insurance, nor health reimbursement account contributions.
• Sick leave accrual per California law, but no other leave benefits such as vacation or holiday leave.
