MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
MENTAL HEALTH TECHNICIAN I
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of experience involving public contact which may have included providing care or guidance for children, elders or others; volunteer work in providing respite to caregivers; or leading youth groups; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
MENTAL HEALTH TECHNICIAN I Special Requirements
- A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant at the cost of the applicant.
- A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
- Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
- Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.

DCFS LOCATION DESCRIPTIONS
PSYCHIATRIC RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT FACILITY (PRTF) at the Enterprise Campus, located in Reno, Nevada, provides mental health treatment for children ages 6 to 17 and is a 24 hour/7 day a week residential treatment setting. The program uses nationally recognized models of care, including a Psychoeducational model, the Trauma Informed Care Model and Recovery Model. PRTF Enterprise also incorporates Aggression Replacement Training into its philosophy of care.
COMMUNITY SERVICES PROGRAMS located in both Reno and Las Vegas, NV: Early Childhood Mental Health Services (ECMHS) provides clinical and targeted case management services to children from birth to age 8 and their families with mental health and/or behavioral health issues. Children's Clinical Services (CCS) provides clinical and targeted case management services to youth ages 6 to 18 and their families with mental health and/or behavioral health issues. Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) provides short term clinical and targeted case management services to youth birth to age 18.
CALIENTE YOUTH CENTER (CYC) located in Caliente, NV
This position is located in Caliente, Nevada at Caliente Youth Center (CYC). Caliente Youth Center (CYC), established in 1962, is a staff-secure facility located in Caliente, Nevada. The facility includes seven separate housing units for youth committed to the state for correctional care: five units for males and two for females. CYC has the capacity to serve up to 140 youth ages 12 to 18. For over 50 years, the Caliente Youth Center has assisted in helping Nevada's at-risk youth change their course. CYC's mission is to promote positive value change to the youth served through a balanced, team-centered and strength-based approach. Nestled up against the mountains, CYC provides a unique atmosphere for correctional care. On site, in addition to the seven separate housing units, there is an administration building, an infirmary, a full-service kitchen and laundry, maintenance, an accredited high school, a gymnasium, a football/soccer field, a baseball/softball diamond, and a workout room for aerobic, weightlifting, and cardio fitness.
DESERT WILLOW TREATMENT CENTER (DWTC) located in Las Vegas, NV. DWTC is a 20-bed psychiatric hospital accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations that provides mental health treatment for children age 12 to 17. Desert Willow Treatment Center (DWTC) operates 7 days per week, 24 hours per day with three shifts. Due to this there are a variety of available full-time work schedules.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
MENTAL HEALTH TECHNICIAN I
Mental Health Technicians provide direct care services, basic skills training, psychosocial training, and case management to youth in a residential setting. The incumbent will work directly with youth ages 12 through 17 with mental health and behavioral health issues. Incumbents work directly with youth individually, in a group setting, and with families. Incumbents work with youth in crisis, complete safety checks, run precautions, complete safety protocols, and respond to emergency situations according to policy and procedures.
- This position is located at PRTF North. Incumbents will work as part of a team of mental health professionals with an emphasis on collaboration. The mission of PRTF North is to maintain a positive and safe treatment environment, to prevent & reduce the use of seclusion and restraint, and to provide youth with the opportunity to facilitate the process of recovery and establish skills commensurate with their physical, social, emotional, behavioral, educational, and moral development. Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. Mental Health Technicians supplement the work of mental health professionals, health specialists, and nursing staff in providing direct client care for clients in a mental health facility.
- The Division of Child and Family Services is recruiting for multiple Mental Health Technician 1 underfilling Mental Health Technician 3 positions. This position will provide direct client care for children at Desert Willow Treatment Center (DWTC) located in Las Vegas. DWTC is a secure 20 bed psychiatric hospital accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations that provides mental health treatment for children ages 12 to 17. Incumbents work under immediate and direct supervision and perform in a trainee capacity to acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. Incumbents will work with a team of psychiatric nurses, clinicians, and other mental health professionals at Desert Willow Treatment Center to provide direct patient care to youth with severe emotional disturbances (SED).
Mental Health Technicians instruct, assist and oversee patients in their daily living skills, implement social and therapeutic interventions with patients, and facilitate or co-facilitate individual or group basic skills training sessions under direct supervision of mental health professionals; monitor patients to promptly identify and prevent self-harm activities and conduct suicide prevention watches by checking on clients at specified intervals; participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings and make recommendations on patients' mental health care; may transport patients to and from appointments using state vehicles; and collect and maintain data, client files, and complete incident/accident reports and enter information into a database.
