Under supervision, coordinates and performs complex accounting and clerical work of above average difficulty, including the maintenance of district financial and statistical records and other related work as required in accordance with provisions of the Education Code, Government Code, Civil Code, and public laws.

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Organizes, prepares, verifies, and maintains payroll source documents for regular and substitute certificated and classified employees.
2. Analyzes and audits monthly timesheets and attendance reports for classified and certificated employees; reviews, and verifies days/hours worked; tabulates and maintains balances for sick leave, vacation, and/or contract days, and adjusts salary as necessary.
3. Prepares supplemental payrolls and adjustments for employees that submit late time sheets and for irregular or nonrecurring payments; calculates retroactive salary raises as needed.
4. Reviews and processes timesheets and records for accuracy and completeness; calculates and records salary adjustments, overtime pay, and compensatory time as needed.
5. Coordinates and makes highly complex calculations to arrive at the proper wage and sick leave and/vacation usage in conjunction with SDI claims.
6. Establishes and sets up pay lines (i.e., extra duty, out of class, overtime, special compensation, retroactivity, prior period, vacation pay, etc.); determines codes for retirement, pay plans, compensation and other rates of pay.
7. Confers, assists, and serves as a resource to other departments, districts or outside agencies regarding payroll and payroll related items (retirement, SDI, W-2’s, unemployment, workers’ compensation, garnishments); provides payroll related information to programs for grant purposes.
8. Balances all payrolls and distributes payroll warrants to employees.
9. To perform a variety of specialized accounting, which may include payroll fiscal and accounting assignments including, health and welfare reconciliation, absence tracking, quarterly reporting to various agencies, posting, processing, and monitoring activities relating to cash receipts, accounts receivable transactions, vendor invoices, accounts payable disbursements, employee reimbursements, and internal auditing; to prepare, maintain, review, reconcile, and distribute related reports; to advise, train, and/or provide responsible assistance to office staff and other incumbents in the Accounting Technician job class series; and to perform related duties as assigned.
10. Performs internal audit functions including warrant audits, documenting audit trails, and complying with audit procedures.
11. Respond to and assist in resolving difficult and sensitive requests.
12. Demonstrate exceptional customer service and respond to requests and inquiries for information regarding benefits and payroll.
13. Performs general office/clerical support duties such as responding to telephone inquiries, filing, and preparing information summaries.
14. Performs all other related duties as assigned.


1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Desired: AA degree or equivalent with major course work in basic or intermediate accounting.
