The City of Fruita is accepting applications for a Communications and Engagement Specialist. This position identifies and implements creative and effective ways to over-communicate important information and updates to the Fruita Community; contributes to the development and implementation of departmental communications, public relations and marketing plans, policies, and procedures; develops, manages, and writes accurate content about City programs for public-facing web pages, digital platforms, video, and print media; coordinates and participates in community engagement activities, assists departments with community engagement and creates materials and tools to educate, inform, and engage the community; advises and assists department staff with information dissemination, such as: internal communications, media relations, advertising, web page development and maintenance, social media, and marketing; develops and executes new and existing social media outlets. Implements and revises social media campaigns throughout the year; attends the City's public engagement efforts and serves as a representative of the City at these events; assists City Manager's Office and all departments with press releases, media inquiries, and special projects. Monitors media coverage; provides support for special events throughout the year; creates photos and videos for publications and public relations purposes. Photographs City facilities, improvement projects, events, and scenery; assists with multimedia presentations, including PowerPoint and Prezi and other tools; writes video scripts for public service announcements promoting the City; coordinates and edits publications, may write speeches or talking points for elected officials and staff; assists with proactively monitoring social media platforms for issues, questions and needs, and develops systems to quickly and effectively address them; maintains and updates content on the City's website. Ensures all web pages follow website policies and guidelines. Writes and designs original content and advises departments with the web content as needed; supports and at times coordinates the production of the City's newsletter: Fruita City Link; back up audio/video production staff for Council meetings; publishes live-stream recordings via the City's website; on a limited basis, performs routine graphic design work; work incudes occasional weekends and nights. Serves as the back up Public Information Officer. Qualifications for this position include a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or University with major coursework in journalism, marketing, communications, public relations or related field; and a minimum of 2-3 years of progressive experience in similar position. Salary is $58,214. City of Fruita offers an excellent benefit package.
