Plans Examiner or Senior Plans Examiner
Position Description
The Community Development Department is looking for a collaborative, effective, critical thinker to fill a Plans Examiner or Senior Plans Examiner position.
What will this person do?
- Ensures compliance of building plans and other related documents through careful and thoughtful review of review of submittals for private development.
- Provide exceptional customer service by guiding designers and applicants through the City's building code and making recommendations.
- Makes effective decisions in a timely manner, sometimes with incomplete information and under tight deadlines and pressure.
- Fosters goodwill by investing in the development of working relationships within and outside of the organization.
- Maintain perspective while reviewing qualitative and quantitative information.
This is a limited-term position but funding is being requested for a full-time regular position in current budget discussions.

What does this person need to be successful?
- 2 years of related building trades or inspection experience.
- Licensed as a Building Plans Examiner.
- Multiple International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO)/International Code Council (ICC) certifications are desired.
- Knowledge of Federal, State, and local building, housing and safety codes and regulations.
- Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, and building codes.
- Ability to identify construction deficiencies, code violations, and deviations from plans, regulations, and standard construction practices.
- Able to handle conflict and focus on taking steps toward resolution.
