Health Information Management Technology Program CHAIR (FT)
Albany Technical College seeks a full-time Program Chair for the Health Information Management Technology Program. This position is based at the Dougherty County Campus, but may include routine travel throughout the local service delivery area. The Program Chair will serve as the first-line administrator within the program area, responsible for the overall leadership, planning, implementation, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of all aspects of the health information technology program. He/she will assure that the program is in compliance with all the laws and regulations of the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM), coordinating the health information technology curriculum with other program requirements. He/she will request and maintain supplies and equipment, prepare budget requests, maintain program certification requirements, as appropriate, prepare and maintain all required documentation and administrative reports, attend staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences. He/she will ensure safety and security requirements are met in the training area, meet with students, staff members and other educators to discuss students’ instructional programs and other issues, and assist with recruitment, retention and job placement efforts. The Program Chair will be responsible for maintaining program standards by participating in related advisory committee meetings and working directly with local employers. He/she must have excellent interpersonal skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, and be proficient in the use of MS Office, Word, Excel and Banner. The candidate should have proficiency in preparation and delivery of instruction, academic advisement, program administration, evaluation and curriculum development and have the demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and the community. He/she should have excellent interpersonal, motivational, and communication skills. He/she must be credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting bodies for the courses assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: The candidate MUST be certified as a RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) OR RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) from The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA); possess a minimum of a Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university in field or related field, *AND* have a minimum of three (3) years of professional experience within in the last seven (7) years.
Preferred Qualifications: Applicants with additional certifications (Certified Professional Coding (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist Physician Base (CCS-P), Certified Coding Specialist) preferred. Experience in a post-secondary institution and with online learning modalities preferred.
Physical Demands: Work is typically performed in an office/classroom/clinical environment with intermittent sitting or walking in various settings. Must frequently lift and carry lightweight objects. Full range of hand and finger motion may be required for data entry purposes.
